STILLWATER, Okla. – After a win in straight sets over No. 15-ranked Lisa Zaar in Monday's Round of 64, the San Diego State women's tennis team's Andjela Skrobonja continued play in the NCAA Singles Tournament on Tuesday. The No. 98-ranked Aztec matched up with Old Dominion's No. 116-ranked Sofia Johnson. Skrobonja won the first set 7-5 and tied the second at three games apiece before dropping eight straight games as Johnson came back to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-1.
Skrobonja began the day by winning four of the first five games to jump out to a 4-1 lead. Johnson took the next three games to even the set at five before Skrobonja claimed victory in a pair of close games to take the first set 7-5.
In the second set, Johnson won the first two games, but Skrobonja took the next two to even the score at three. The opponents split the next two games, with Johnson winning then Skrobonja tied the score back up at three. The Aztec ran out of gas, coughing up the next three games as the Monarch took the set 6-3.
The run carried over into the third set, where Johnson won the first five games to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Skrobonja won the next one to keep the match going but could not repeat her success, falling 6-1 to end her tournament run.
