Aztecs Blank Air Force 4-0 on Friday

USAFA, Colo. – The No. 65-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team was in Colorado on Friday morning to take on the Air Force Falcons. The Aztecs won the doubles point to take an early lead and won all three singles matches to finish out a 4-0 shutout win.
 
The Scarlet and Black win their third straight and improve to 10-5 and 4-1 in conference play and drop the Falcons to 1-14 and 0-7 in Mountain West matches.
 
In doubles, on court No. 1, Yasmine Kabbaj and Myah Petchey (5-5) played against Arianna Van Houweling/Nadia Kojonroj. The Aztecs earned a 6-3 win. Gloria Alogo and Zoe Olmos (3-8) played on the third court against Giovanna Sanchirico and Joselyn Limbago. Their match went to a tiebreaker, but the SDSU duo won 7-6 (7-2) to clinch the doubles point. Andreea Velcea and Andjela Skrobonja (8-3) paired up on the second court. Facing Alexis Odom and Isabella Flodin, their match also went to a tiebreaker. The Aztecs led 6-6 (8-7) when the doubles point was clinched.
 
Facing Carissa Holguin on the bottom court, Olmos (7-6) coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 win.
 
No. 96-ranked Kabbaj (10-2) battled Van Houweling on the top court. She also cruised to a victory, winning 6-2, 6-1.
 
On the third court, Petchey (7-4) faced Odom. Petchey, too, faced little resistance in a 6-1, 6-3 victory to clinch a second consecutive 4-0 win for the Aztecs.
 
Three matches went unfinished. No. 84-ranked Skrobonja (11-2) matched up with Kojonroj on the second court. Skrobonja took the first set 6-2 and the second was even at four when SDSU won. Playing on court four, Alogo (6-4) went up against Flodin. She eked out a 7-6 (7-4) win in the first set tiebreaker and won the first game of the second set before the match concluded. Velcea (8-4) faced Sanchirico on court No. 5. She dropped the first set 6-4 and trailed 2-0 in the second at the time SDSU clinched.
 
San Diego State finishes play this weekend with a road match at New Mexico at 11 a.m. MT/10 a.m. PT on Sunday, April 7.
