SAN DIEGO – The No. 72-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team hosted the Wyoming Cowgirls on Thursday at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs won the doubles point to take an early lead before winning every singles set and taking three singles matches to finish out a 4-0 shutout win.

The Scarlet and Black improve to 9-5 and 3-1 in conference play and drop the Cowgirls to 11-8 and 2-2 in Mountain West matches.

In doubles, Andreea Velcea and Andjela Skrobonja (8-3) paired up on the second court. Facing Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova, the Aztecs cruised to a 6-2 win. On court No. 1, Yasmine Kabbaj and Myah Petchey (4-5) played against Sophie Zehender and Violetta Borodina. The match was close, but they came through to win the doubles point for the Aztecs. Gloria Alogo and Zoe Olmos (2-8) played on the third court against Lucia Malinak and Jeselle Ante. They were bested 6-3.

No. 71-ranked Skrobonja (11-2) matched up with Brink on the second court. The Aztec coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 win.

No. 73-ranked Kabbaj (9-2) battled Zehender on the top court. Much like her teammate, Kabbaj cruised as she earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

On the third court, Petchey (6-4) faced Borodina. The first match was even at six with Petchey leading 5-1 in the tiebreaker when Borodina was forced to retire, and the Aztecs clinched a win.

Three matches went unfinished. Facing Malinak on the bottom court, Olmos (6-6) took the first set 6-2. The second was even at two when the match concluded. Playing on court four, Alogo (6-4) went up against Ante. She cruised to a 6-2 win in the first set and the second was even at three when the Aztecs clinched a victory. Velcea (8-4) faced Dobrilova on court No. 5. She also defeated her opponent 6-2 in the first set but trailed 3-2 in the second when the match was decided.

San Diego State will remain at the Aztec Tennis Center and host Wyoming at 2 p.m. on Thursday and San Jose State at 12 p.m. on Saturday to wrap up the homestand.
