Aztecs Continue Grueling Early Slate at Mary Nutter

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State continues its tough non-conference schedule this weekend when it travels to the Palm Springs area to play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California.
 
The Aztecs (5-5), who are receiving votes in both major national polls, will play games against No. 11/13 Missouri at 5 p.m. PT Thursday, Nebraska (10 a.m. PT) and Bethune-Cookman (3 p.m. PT) on Friday, and No. 1/1 Oklahoma at 12:30 p.m. PT Saturday.
 
Out of SDSU's 10 games so far this season, eight of come against teams that made the 2023 NCAA tournament (San Diego State is 3-5 in those games) and five have come against nationally ranked squads (the Aztecs are 1-4). SDSU's upcoming opponents this weekend Missouri and Nebraska also made the 2023 NCAA tournament, while Oklahoma is the three-time defending national champion.
 
Micaela Macario leads the offense in many categories, including average (.318), runs (10), walks (7), stolen bases (8) and on-base percentage (.484). Mac Barbara, the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, is hitting .310 with two home runs and 13 RBIs, slugging .552 with a .429 on-base mark.
 
Allie Light, the defending MW Pitcher of the Year and the preseason pitcher of the year, leads a pitching staff that has combined to record a 2.10 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 70 innings. Light is 2-1 with a 1.01 ERA in 27 2/3 innings, striking out 17 with six walks and limiting the opposition to a .240 average.
