TEMPE  – The Aztec lacrosse team (1-1) got its first win against Xavier (0-2) 16-6 Sunday afternoon at Arizona State. Three SDSU players had hat tricks, including Brooklyne Waddell, Jenna McDermott, and Kate Christos.

The Musketeers scored first, but the Aztecs quickly answered with three goals of their own. The Aztecs scored eight goals in the first quarter and were up 10-4 at the half. SDSU outshot Xavier 35-25 and 25-17 in shots on goal. They were 4-9 in extra-man opportunities, while the Musketeers were 2-10.

The Aztecs had eight players score, including the three hat tricks and two goals each from Frankie Garcia and Sara Toner. Tatum Neach scored her first career goal as an Aztec. Nikki Seven had two assists, her first ones as an Aztec. Christos and Mia Kohn had four draw controls each, with Victoria Rankin having three.

Lola Mancuso and Kirra Crowley led the Musketeers with two goals each. Colby Wasson had three caused turnovers and Kiera Armitage had six draw controls.

"Great win today, we took some steps forward in our road to progress and continuing to improve every game is our goal. We still have some things to clean up regarding discipline, fouls, and trying to stay out of the penalty box. Allowing the other team man-up opportunities does not allow our offense to do what they do," Head Coach Kylee White explained. "Caitlin stepped up in a great way, and Lindsay (Wirfs) got some good experience towards the end of the game. A lot of contributors today, gritty efforts by everyone that stepped on the field, and the cheering from the sideline definitely impacted the outcome today. I'm really proud of how they battled. Traveling from Missouri to Arizona, stepping on the field ready to go play Aztec Lacrosse, we are Road Warriors."
