Aztecs Host UC San Diego in Home Opener

SAN DIEGO – On Tuesday, January 30, the San Diego State women's tennis team will play at the Aztec Tennis Center for the first time this spring when it hosts crosstown foe UC San Diego at 2 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for noon on January 20, but was postponed due to inclement weather in San Diego.
 
San Diego State (1-1) began its season in the ITA Season Kickoff in Malibu, Calif., last weekend. The Aztecs fell 4-0 to host No. 6-ranked Pepperdine on Friday morning. After falling behind 2-0 to Loyola Marymount the next day, San Diego State won four consecutive singles matches to earn a 4-2 victory. San Diego State's wins came at the 1, 2, 4 and 6 spots in the lineup from Yasmine Kabbaj, Andjela Skrobonja, Gloria Alogo and Andreea Velcea, respectively. No. 111-ranked Myah Petchey also led her singles match when SDSU clinched a win.
 
UC San Diego (0-3) began its season in Arizona, where it was blanked by No. 25-ranked Arizona State, Grand Canyon and Arizona. Last season, the Tritons finished at 10-16 and made a NIT appearance. The Aztecs are a perfect 14-0 all time against UC San Diego. When the teams faced off last year, it was all Aztecs in a 7-0 victory for the Scarlet and Black.

The Aztecs are playing in another multi team event this weekend, this time in Tucson, Ariz. San Diego State will take on No. 13 Arizona at 2 p.m. MT on Friday and Maryland at noon MT on Saturday.
