Cross Country Finishes 7th at Mountain West Championships

BOISE, Idaho – The San Diego State women's cross country team competed at the Mountain West Championships on Friday morning, finishing seventh overall in the field of 11 conference teams. The placement marks their best at the conference championship meet since the 2010 season.
 
The Aztecs' team time for the day was 1:49:07, the fastest at the Mountain West Championship meet in program history on their way to 206 total points, the lowest score since the 2006 conference championships.
 
Individually, Jessica Kain was the first in scarlet and black to cross the finish line with a time of 21:09.2. She finished 28th overall in the field of 102 runners. It is the best individual placement by an Aztec since Marianne Hogan was 23rd in the 2012 Mountain West Championship.
 
Posting her best race of the season, Vanessa Cabello was the second Aztec finisher with a time of 21:17.8 for a 33rd-place finish. Eva Rethmeier was third on the team, and 44th overall, posting a time of 21:39.4.
 
Amber Elias (22:18.9) and Maddie Heller (22:41.3) were the next two Aztec runners across the line with Bella Peretti (23:07.5) and Maddy Paronne (23:10.9) rounding out the SDSU scoring.
 
Colorado State claimed both the individual and team titles, totaling 39 points in the team standings while Sarah Carter won the race with a time of 19:48.5.
 
San Diego State will now set their sights on the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 10 in Sacramento, Calif.
