COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State men's golfer Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) has been named both the Mountain West Golfer and Freshman of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the first time Chokprajakchat has won either award.

Chokprajakchat led the Aztecs to their third consecutive Wyoming Cowboy Classic championship earlier in the week. SDSU fired a final round-low 7-under 281 Tuesday on the par-72, 7,334-yard Whirlwind Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, as San Diego State vaulted from seventh to first to win the tournament by a stroke at 7-under, one stroke ahead of Kansas (-6). It was the second team title of the season for the Aztecs (also William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Sept. 23-24, 2022) and third straight Cowboy Classic victory overall.

Chokprajakchat tied for fourth out of 116 golfers at 6-under 210 to pace SDSU. Chokprajakchat, who tied for fourth with William Duquette of Kansas, opened with a 4-under 68 and a 1-over 73 on Monday before carding a 3-under 69 Tuesday. The fourth-place finish was his easily his best of the season (previous was a T-35), while the 210 matched a 54-hole low score. He bogeyed his second hole Tuesday on the par-4, 462-yard fourth hole, but sank four birdies the rest of the way for the 69. Only Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan (-13), LMU's Riley Lewis (-12) and Pacific's Petr Janik (-7) bested Chokprajakchat's -4 for the tournament.

On the season, Chokprajakchat is averaging 72.62 strokes over 21 rounds.

The Aztecs, who rank 27th in the latest GolfStat team ratings, return to action at the Western Intercollegiate, April 10-12 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California.
