Tamara Arnold Earns MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State women's tennis' Tamara Arnold has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. This is Arnold's first player of the week honors this season, and the third time in her career she has earned the award.

Arnold went 3-1 over the weekend in Boise, Idaho as the Aztecs swept Utah State, 4-0 on Saturday, and beat Boise State 4-3 on Sunday. Arnold won both of her singles matches and went 1-1 in doubles. In singles play, Arnold played at the No. 2 spot in the rotation on both days and won her match on Saturday against Lisa Kung of Utah State, 6-2, 6-4. She also won her doubles match with partner Cecile Morin on Saturday at the No. 3 slot, winning 6-4. After a 2-0 Saturday she added another singles win at court two to her weekend total on Sunday, as she took down Lorelyz Marruffo of Boise State in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
 
Overall, for the 2023 dual season Arnold has posted a 6-5 record in dual play in singles, playing exclusively on either court one or court two in all of her matches. She has also beaten opponents from ranked teams including Alabama and Rice so far this season.
 
The Aztecs are 10-5 (3-1 MW) this season and have won five of their last six matches. SDSU is currently ranked No. 53 in the latest ITA team rankings and are back in action on Friday morning when they continue Mountain West Conference play against Colorado State at 3:00 p.m. MT in Laramie, Wyoming.
