SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The San Diego State men's golf team moved into a tie for eighth place on the second day of the Western Intercollegiate Tuesday at the historic par-70, 6,514-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California.

The Aztecs, who are 27th in the latest GolfStat computer rankings, are tied with No. 17 Arizona at 12-over-par 712 in a loaded 14-team field that includes seven programs in the top 40 of the GolfStat rankings. No. 9 Pepperdine carded a tournament-low 22-under 328 in the second round and lead by 14 strokes over No. 22 Oregon (-13) at 27-under 673. No. 43 Brigham Young (-8), No. 50 California (-4) and No. 8 Stanford (-2) are also under par through 36 holes. SDSU moved up three spots on the day and are three strokes behind sixth-place UNLV (+9) heading into tomorrow's final round.

Unlike the other team events, the Western Intercollegiate is a six-count-five event, meaning six players are in the starting lineup with five counted for scores. Usually collegiate tournaments consist of five players in the starting lineup with four counted for scores.

Sophomore Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) and senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) are tied for 33th out of 92 golfers at 2-over 142. Lague fired a 1-under 69 in today's second round, while Guezzale carded a 3-over 73. Lague opened with two bogeys in his first three holes and was at 2-over through nine holes but rallied for three birdies on the back nine with no bogeys for a 69.

Guezzale, meanwhile, shot a 3-over 73 today with a double bogey on the par-3, 217-yard third and a bogey on the par-4, 346-yard seventh, but notched three birdies (and three bogeys) the rest of the way, including back-to-back bogeys to close his round.

Junior Skyler Ngo (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman HS) is in a tie for 42nd at 3-over 143 after a 2-over 72 today. Ngo birdied the par-5, 565-yard sixth on the front nine but had four bogeys on the back nine with his lone birdie coming on the par-4, 366-yard 17th.

Sophomore Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) is tied for 48th at 4-over with a 73 today. Hastings birdied the par-4, 460-yard first and eagled the par-5, 502-yard ninth, but also had three bogeys and a triple bogey on the par-4, 378-yard fourth to settle for a 73.

Freshman Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) shot an even-par 70 and vaulted from 75th to a tie for 53rd at 5-over 145. Oyama rebounded from a 3-over start through four holes with four birdies over the final 13 holes with one bogey.

Chokprajakchat had six bogeys through his first 16 holes before sinking his lone birdie on the par-3, 173-yard 18th.
