SDSU Leads Lamkin San Diego Classic after Two Rounds

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- The San Diego State men's golf team opened with a 13-under-par 275 first round Monday and leads the Lamkin San Diego Classic after two rounds at 16-under 560 on the par-72, 7,033-yard San Diego Country Club in nearby Chula Vista, California.
 
The Aztecs, who are ranked 30th in the latest GolfStat ratings, fired a 13-under 275 for the lowest score of the day and followed with a 3-under 285 to hold a four-shot lead over New Mexico (-12). No. 20 Colorado State (-9), No. 34 Washington (-4) and UCLA (-3) are the only other programs under par in the 15-team field through 36 holes.
 
Three SDSU golfers are in the top 10 of the 95-man field and four are in the top 20. Sophomore Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) is tied for fourth at 6-under 138 following a 67 and a 71 in breezy conditions. In the first round, Lague birdies six of the first 12 holes and coasted to a 5-under 67. In the second round, Lague opened with 13 consecutive pars before birdieing two of the next four and ultimately bogeying the par-4, 460-yard 18th to settle for a 71.
 
Sophomore Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) is just a stroke behind in sixth at 5-under 139 through two rounds. Hastings carded a 3-under 69 in the first round and followed with a 70 in the second. At even par through his first 12 holes in the first round, he birdied three straight and recorded three consecutive pars to close his round at 69. In the second round, Hastings opened with back-to-back birdies, bogeyed the par-3, 202-yard 13th and birdied the par-5, 603-yard 16th to sign for a 70.
 
Freshman Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS), meanwhile, is tied for ninth at 3-under with rounds of 69 and 72. At 1-over through his first 10 holes in the opening round, Oyama birdied five straight before bogeying the par-4, 368-yard first and finished with a 69. He sank four birdies in the second round, but also had two bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4, 390-yard 12th.
 
Competing as an individual, freshman Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) is tied for 15th at -2, logging rounds of 72 and 70. Kowack had four birdies and four bogeys in the first round, and in the second three birdies and three bogeys, but also eagled the par-5, 563-yard eighth.
 
Senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) is tied for 26th at +1 and freshman Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) is tied for 33rd at +2 to round out San Diego State's starting lineup.
 
Others competing as individuals include junior Skyler Ngo (Las Vegas), sophomore Rugthai Thongsom (Surat Thani, Thailand) and sophomore Jack Townsend (San Diego/Charter School of San Diego) in a tie for 40th at +3, and junior Liam Koeneke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) in a tie for 67th at +7.
 
Washington's Petr Hruby and Colorado State's Christoph Bleier lead the field at -9.
 
The Aztecs will tee off with New Mexico and Colorado State at 9:30 a.m. PT in Tuesday's final round.
