SAN DIEGO – The Aztec lacrosse team opens their 2023 season on the road this weekend with a pair of road games. On Friday 4 p.m. PT, SDSU will play No. 16 Notre Dame and then fly to Wisconsin for a Sunday afternoon showdown in Milwaukee against the Golden Eagles. Both games will be streamed.
Season Preview Tidbits
• The Aztecs will be competing as an independent in 2023. The Aztecs will join and compete as a member of the PAC-12 conference starting in 2024.
• SDSU will play 10 of their 16 games at home 2023, highlighted by two games at Snapdragon Stadium and facing four teams ranked in the IWLCA preseason poll: No. 6 Stony Brook, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 18 USC, and No. 25 Colorado while Arizona State received votes.
• Key returners for SDSU include Deanna Balsama, who holds school records points (73), goals (62), and shots (122) in a season, Cailin Young with 48 draw controls, and Shelby Hook,a regular starter and had 14 caused turnovers.
•Young and Hook along with Sam Horan will be the team captains this season.
• SDSU has 8 newcomers (six freshmen and two transfers).
• Head coach Kylee White (12th season), the only head coach in program history received a five-year contract extension in the fall of 2022.

The Fighting Irish were ranked No. 16 in the IWLCA preseason poll...They have two USA Lacrosse preseason All-Americans in Kasey Choma and Madison Ahern. . .They finished the 2022 season with a record of 9-10… They later competed at the ACC tournament and NCAA tournament… They lost to Michigan 17-11 in the NCAA tournament…
