No. 25 Aztecs Tied for 11th at SHC in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- The San Diego State men's golf moved up one spot into a tie for 11th on a windy second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Monday. The Aztecs carded a 5-over 293 on the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands course and are at 6-over 582 through 36 holes.
 
SDSU, which is ranked 25th in the latest GolfStat ratings, is tied with No. 8 Georgia Tech for 11th in the loaded 15-team field at +6, three shots behind No. 41 TCU (+3) for ninth and one shot behind of UCF (+5) for 10th. No. 4 North Carolina leads at -20, while No. 16 Texas (-16), No. 14 Pepperdine (-12), No. 7 Illinois (-10) and No. 9 Oklahoma (-6) round out the top 5.
 
Sophomore Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) leads San Diego State through two rounds in a tie for 20th out of 84 golfers at 1-under 143. Hastings dropped 12 places following a 3-over 75 today, which came with four birdies, one bogey and three double bogeys. He regrouped down the stretch, birdieing both the par-4, 440-yard seventh and the par-5, 592-yard ninth to salvage a 75.
 
Three Aztecs are tied for 54th at +4, including freshman Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand), sophomore Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) and freshman Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) shot. Chokprajakchat led the way today with an even-par 72, including an eagle on the par-5, 577-yards 13th and two birdies, which were offset by four bogeys.
 
Lague, meanwhile, shot a 2-over 74 and Kowack a 5-over 77. Lague eagled the par-5, 620-yard third and sank two birdies, but also recorded six bogeys. Kowack followed up his 1-under 71 yesterday with a lone birdie on the par-4, 365-yard fifth and just two bogeys, but ended his round with a quadruple bogey on the ninth.
 
Freshman Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) matched Chokprajakchat with a 72 today and is tied for 63rd at +5 overall. Oyama birdied the par-4, 500-yard 11th and the par-5, 622-yard 18th, and two bogeys.
 
North Carolina's Austin Greaser and Florida's Yuxin Lin lead the tournament through two rounds at -10, one shot ahead of Texas' Christiaan Maas (-9) and Pepperdine's Sam Choi (-9), and two ahead of Oklahoma's Patrick Welch (-8).
