SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's golf team will play in the Causeway Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif. Monday-Tuesday. This will be SDSU's second tournament of the spring and fifth of the year.
The 54-hole tournament will get underway Monday with 36 holes beginning with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. The final 18 will be played Tuesday, also with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The 11-team tournament field includes the host UC Davis, Sacramento State, Washington, San Francisco, Cal Poly, Hawai'i, BYU, Nevada, Wyoming and Cal State Bakersfield.
The Aztecs will roll out a starting five of Bernice Olivarez Ilas, Andrea Gomez, Sammy Lee, April Ranches and Anika Sato. Additionally, Anna Lina Otten will be playing as an individual.
Olivarez Ilas (Ayala Alabang, Philippines) leads the team with an 18-hole average of 73.7 strokes. She posted career-best 18 and 54-hole scores in the final fall tournament, carding a 211 at the Hurricane Invitational with a 67 in her second round.
Gomez (Huixquilucan, Mexico) led the Aztecs with a 235 at the San Diego State Classic in what was her first start since the 2020-21 season.
Lee (San Ramon, Calif.) has started all five tournaments for the Aztecs. In the final tournament of the fall, she had a career-best performance, shooting a 223 at the Hurricane Invitational.
Ranches (San Diego), a fifth-year senior, tied for the second-best score among Aztecs at the San Diego State Classic two weeks ago.
Sato (Utsunomiya, Japan) is averaging 75.6 strokes per 18, good for second on the team.
Otten (Neuss, Germany) has started 21 straight tournaments for the Aztecs and shot a career best 221 at the Stanford Intercollegiate in the fall.
The forecast calls for clouds with a chance of rain and temperatures in the 40's.
The par 72 Del Paso Country Club will play 6,143 yards on Monday and 6,086 on Tuesday with the par five 15th hole going from 535 yards to 478. The course hosted the 2015 U.S. Senior Open.
