WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- The 20th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth at 21-over-par 885 at the Southwestern Invitational Wednesday on the par-72, 7,017-yard North Ranch Country Club.

The Aztecs, who are ranked 20th in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, while the computer rankings have them 19th (GolfStat) and 20th (Golfweek/Sagarin), tied with Wake Forest (No. 34 in GolfStat) in eighth out of 12 teams. Texas (No. 20 in GolfStat) led wire-to-wire and finished at 14-under 850, 13 strokes ahead of tournament host Pepperdine (No. 14 in GolfStat) at -1. Arizona State (No. 4 in GolfStat) (+4), Oregon (No. 26 Oregon in GolfStat) (+8), Washington (No. 29 in GolfStat) (+16) and UCLA (+16) rounded out the top 6, while Georgia (No. 32 in GolfStat) claimed seventh at +19.

Sophomore Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) tied for ninth out of 66 golfers at 1-under 215 to pace San Diego State. Hastings followed up his 70 and 73 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, with an even-par 72 in today's final round. Hastings logged four birdies, including three in a span on four holes - par-3, 228-yard third, the par-5, 581-yard fourth and the par-5, 493-yard sixth. He also birdied the par-4, 424-yard 18th after double-bogeying the par-3, 181-yard 17th. Hastings also had a pair of bogeys on the day.

Sophomore Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS), meanwhile, tied for 15th at 1-over 217. Lague, who opened with a 67 on Monday, overcame yesterday's 76 with a better 2-over 74 in today's final round. Lague got to 1-under following birdies on the par-4, 415-yard second and No. 4, but bogeyed the par-4, 410-yard 10th and double bogeyed the par-4, 416-yard 14th to settle for the 74.

Freshman Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) improved for the third straight day, carding a 1-over 73 on Wednesday after opening with a 77 and 75 earlier in the week. His 54-hole total of 9-over 225 was good enough for a tie for 35th. Chokprajakchat sank third birdies on the day, including the second, the par-4, 386-yard ninth and the 18th, which were offset by four bogeys.

Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) tied for 42nd at 12-over 228 with back-to-back 77s to close his tournament. Oyama logged two birdies today - No. 3 and the par-5, 526-yard 12th - but had three bogeys and two double bogeys as well.

Senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) finished 65th at 32-over after shooting an 84 today.

SDSU will compete in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course Hokuala, Feb. 16-18, in Lihue, Hawaii.
