LIHUE, Kaua'i, Hawaii -- The 21st-ranked San Diego State men's golf team sits in 16th place at the suspended John Burns Intercollegiate Thursday in Hawaii.

With rain in the forecast for the next two days in Lihue, Kaua'i, midway through today's first round the 21 coaches agreed to play as many holes as possible instead of the planned three consecutive days of 18-hole rounds on the par-72, 6,905-yard Ocean Course Hokuala.

The Aztecs, who entered the tournament ranked 21st in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, while the computer rankings have them 20th (GolfStat) and 21st (Golfweek/Sagarin), rallied late in the first round to card a 4-over-par 292 and are at even-par midway through the second round.

Sophomore Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) led the way for SDSU with a 2-under 70, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 510-yard fourth hole. Lague also had two birdies in the first round and is 1-over through 10 holes in the second round, which is in a tie for 39th in the 126-man field.

Classmate Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) carded a 1-over 73 in the first round with three birdies and four bogeys. Hastings has been even better in the second round and is 4-under through 11 holes with four birdies and no bogeys. He's tied for 22nd.

Freshmen Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) and Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) shot 74 and 75 in the first round, respectively. Oyama overcame a triple bogey on his first hole - par-3, 169-yard eighth - with third birdies and two bogeys the rest of the way. Oyama is 1-over through 11 holes in his second round and is tied for 82nd with Chokprajakchat.

Chokprajakchat, meanwhile, started bogey-double-bogey through his first three holes (7-through-9), but was 1-under the rest of the first round with three birdies and two bogeys. In the second round, he's even-par through 11 holes with two birdies and two bogeys.

Senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) shot a 6-over 78 in the first round with two birdies, two bogeys and three double bogeys. He's 1-under through 10 holes in the second round and is coming off a double bogey on the par-4, 435-yard 18th after starting with three birdies and no bogeys through his first nine holes. Guezzale is tied for 100th overall.

Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan leads the tournament following a blazing 11-under 61 in the first round that featured two eagles, nine birdies and two bogeys. He's even par through 11 holes in the second round. New Mexico's Bastien Amat (-10) is second, while Brigham Young's Keanu Akina (-9) and David Timmins (-8) are right behind.
