No. 20 SDSU Slips at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- The 20th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team slipped three spots into a tie for seventh place following a 13-over-par 301 Tuesday at the Southwestern Invitational on the par-72, 7,017-yard North Ranch Country Club. The Aztecs are now tied with UCLA at 13-over 589 heading into Wednesday's final round.
 
Texas, ranked 20th in the latest GolfStat computer rankings, stayed in first place despite a 2-over 290. Through two rounds, the Longhorns lead the 12-team field at 16-under, 17 shots clear of Oregon (No. 26 in GolfStat) at 1-over 577. Tournament host Pepperdine (No. 14 in GolfStat) is third at +2, while Arizona State (No. 4 in GolfStat) is fourth at +3 and Georgia (No. 32 in GolfStat) is fifth at +8. Washington (No. 29 in GolfStat) is four shots ahead of SDSU and the Bruins at +9.
 
Sophomores Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) and Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) are tied for 10th out of 66 golfers through two rounds at 1-under 143. Hastings fired a 1-over 73 in today's second round when the average score was 75.80, while Lague followed yesterday's 67 with a 76 today. Hastings logged four birdies today, including three over his final seven holes, which was offset by five bogeys. Lague, meanwhile, was 7-over through his first eight holes, but settled down by shooting 3-under over the final 10 holes with three birdies and seven pars.
 
Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) is tied for 37th at 7-over 151 after carding a 5-over 77 today. His lone birdie came on the par-5, 474-yard 15th hole.
 
Fellow freshman Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) improved on his 5-over 77 yesterday with a 3-over 75 today to move up 11 places into a tie for 42nd. After being at 5-over through his first 11 holes, Chokprajakchat birdied No. 15 and the par-4, 424-yard 18th to finish his final seven holes at 2-under for his 75.
 
Senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) shot his second straight 82 and his 65th at 20-over 164.
 
San Diego State plays its final round at 9:10 a.m. PT Wednesday.
