DENVER, Colo. – Bernice Olivarez Ilas of the Aztec women's golf team shot a 69 (-3) in the first round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate Friday to tie a career-low 18-hole score. As a team, the Aztecs sit in 10th place (out of 16) with 36 holes to play.
Olivarez Ilas' 69 put her in a tie for fourth place. She bogeyed two of her first three holes and then recorded five birdies over her next 15 holes.
April Ranches also had a fantastic opening round, shooting a 73 (+1). She was bogey free through her first 13 holes and sits in 24th place.
Anna Lina Otten and Anika Sato both shot a 77 (+5) to round out the Aztec scoring. Otten had two birdies and nine pars to offset seven bogeys. Sato started her round with a double-bogey and then back-to-back bogeys but then recovered and was just one-over for the rest of the round.
Sammy Lee finished with an 80 (+8).
