ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aztec women's golf team wrapped up their first day at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. After 36 holes, they are in 13th place out of 17 teams.
The Aztecs were led by Anna Lina Otten is tied for 34th with a 148 (+4). In the first 18, Otten led the Aztecs with a 73 (+1) aided by two birdies and just three bogeys. She was solid in her second 18 as well, collecting four more birdies, but was bogged down by a quadruple bogey on the par four 13th hole.
Bernice Olivarez Ilas and Sammy Lee tied for the second-best round for SDSU with a 149 (+5). Olivarez Ilas led the Aztecs in the second round with a 73 (two birdies and three bogeys) after shooting a 76 in the first 18.
Sammy Lee had a team-high three birdies in the first 18, including back-to-back ones on holes 11 and 12, and finished with a 74 and then followed it up with a 75 in the second 18.
April Ranches finished with a 154. After shooting a 78 in the first round, she shot a 76 in the second 18.
Anika Sato shot a 79 in both rounds.
Ohio State is first place through 36 holes, holding a six stroke lead over second place Iowa State. Mayka Hoogeboom of Kent State leads all individuals with a 135 (-9, 70-65)/
