COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Thirteen members of the Aztec track and field team earned Mountain West All-Conference honors and Head Coach Shelia Burrell won Coach of the Year, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon..

Jalyn Harris led all Aztecs by earning honors in three events over the weekend. She placed second in the 100m dash in a new PR of 11.57. She also won gold in the 4x100m relay with teammates Danae Dyer, Jada Moore and Aisha Watt. Their time of 44.38 was the ninth fastest time in SDSU history. Harris followed up those performances with her second gold medal of the meet in the 4x400m relay, along with Nyjari McNeil, Watt, and Sakura Roberson. The quartet finished the relay in 3:33.68, good for third all-time in school history. The 4x400m relay also clinched the Aztecs second consecutive Mountain West Conference title, and their time of 3:33.68 broke the Championship met record that had stood since 2002.

Simone Johnson, Dyer, Moore, and Watt were named all-conference selections in two events. Johnson won the triple jump competition in 42-03.75 and came in third in the long jump by jumping 19-06.75 in the event to take the bronze. Dyer earned gold in both the 4x100m relay and individually when she won the 100m hurdles in 13.24. That mark of 13.24 is No. 6 all-time in school history. Moore, after winning the 100m dash, 200m dash and 4x100m relay last year at the conference meet followed that up by winning both the 4x100m relay and the 100m dash as an individual in 2022. Moore ran 11.39 and set a new PR in the 100m dash, placing her amongst the Aztec elite in the event, as her time of 11.39 is the third fastest in San Diego State history in the event. Watt earned all-conference honors by helping both the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay earn gold medals at the Mountain West Championships.

Kaitlin Heri earned an all-conference selection by winning the pole vault competition. Heri cleared 14-03.50 in the event and is now tied for second all-time in school history. Ashley Callahan and Sara Absten both earned silvers in their events as well as all-conference selections. Callahan came in second in the pole vault, clearing 13-10.00, and Absten came in second in the heptathlon by scoring 5,503 points in the discipline. Callahan's clearance of 13-10.00 is a freshman class record in the pole vault and tied for the no. 6 highest clearance all-time, while Absten's 5,503 points in the heptathlon is seventh all-time at SDSU.

Lauren Harper, Jenna Fee Feyerabend, and Rhea Hoyte all won bronze medals in their events, as well as all-conference selections. Harper placed third in the 800m run in a time of 2:06.40, which is the fourth best all-time in the event at SDSU. Fee Feyerabend, a freshman from Germany, earned the bronze in the heptathlon by scoring 5,407 points which earns her the all-conference designation. Finally, Hoyte earned another bronze in the 400m hurdles for the Aztecs on Saturday by running 59.19 in the event.    

Head Coach Shelia Burrell was also named Coach of the Year after leading the Aztecs to their second consecutive Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field title. This is the teams fourth Mountain West title in the past five seasons.
