SAN DIEGO – The Aztec track and field team returned to the track on Thursday for the first of three days of competition at the Sun Angel Classic hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. The Aztecs had three athletes competing in the heptathlon on day one.
Sara Absten continued her impressive start to the outdoor season with a new personal best in the 100m hurdles to open the competition. She ran 13.88, breaking the 14 second barrier and came in third overall in the event. Both Jenna Fee Feyerabend and Ruthie Grant-Williams also PR'ed in the event, running 14.37 and 15.20 respectively.
As for the high jump, Feyerabend tied her PR and the freshman class record by jumping 5-09.25 to place first in the event. Absten finished directly behind her in second, clearing 5-07.00, and Grant-Williams came in a tie for sixth, clearing 5-01.00.
The shot put followed the high jump for the trio of Aztecs. Feyerabend led the way finishing fourth with a throw of 40-00.50, followed by Absten in seventh who threw 37-06.75, and Grant Williams placed tenth, and threw 33-09.50.
The 200m dash wrapped up the day of heptathlon competition for the Aztecs. Absten won her second event of the day, finishing in 24.54, while Feyerabend came in sixth at 26.24 and Grant-Williams came in tenth at 26.73.
Up Next: The Aztecs continue competition at the Sun Angel Classic on Friday, with day two of the heptathlon, as well as the high jump, pole vault, 200m dash, and the 110m hurdles prelims. Additionally, the Aztecs will have athletes competing at the Triton Invitational on Friday, hosted by UC San Diego. All the action from both meets will be available live on finishedresults.com
