SAN DIEGO – San Diego State University track and field head coach Shelia Burrell has announced the date, plan and schedule for the 43rd annual Aztec Track and Field Invitational. The three-day meet, which will take place from March 24-26, will once again feature some of the top collegiate teams and athletes in the country.
To reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, as was the case in 2021, the meet will be much smaller in scope and only include a single invitational section limited to 15 NCAA Division I teams, as well as a small number of Colleges and Universities who have individual athletes that have achieved the Invitational Meet Performance Standards. The entire meet will take place at the Aztrack on the SDSU Sports Deck, except for the men and women's invitational hammer throw which will take place on the campus of UC San Diego in nearby La Jolla on the morning of Friday, March 25.
"In spite of being a smaller meet, this years Aztec Invitational will be packed with high level performances as collegiate athletes come to San Diego and try to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships this June," head coach Shelia Burrell said. "This years meet promises to be exciting and competitive. It will be a building block as we hope to add back the Open Meet, international teams and elite professionals in 2023."
As of this date, Air Force. Alaska-Anchorage, Boise State, Brigham Young, CAL, Nevada-Reno, New Mexico State, Oregon, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and Western Washington University have been invited and are scheduled to send teams to the meet. Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, Palomar College, Riverside City College, San Diego Mesa College and Tufts will be sending elite athletes and relay teams.
The combined events kick off the meet on Thursday, March 24 with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. On Friday, March 25 will be the invitational hammer throw at UC San Diego, while the final day of the multi-events will take place at SDSU during the day. The invitational meet will wrap up the meet on Saturday, March 26.

Spectators entry is $5.00 per person ages 12 and above. Students are free.
