SAN DIEGO – The Aztec lacrosse team (3-6) fell to No. 9 Denver 19-11 Sunday afternoon. SDSU pulled within four goals (15-11) early in the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers were able to end the game on a 4-0 run. The Aztecs' 11 goals were the most Denver has allowed this season.
"We hung with the number nine team in the country for a very long time," Head coach Kylee White said after the game. "Their high-pressure defense just didn't allow us to have enough shots."
SDSU was once again led in scoring by Deanna Balsama, who netted four goals, while Bailey Brown added three with an assist.
Through seven minutes it was 2-2, but then Denver scored six of the next seven goals. The Aztecs were also to score the final two goals of the first half, with both coming from Bailey Brown to bring the score to 8-5.
After trading the first two goals of the third quarter, Denver went on another run and scored five of the next six goals to pull away.
Julia Lytle scored twice and led the Aztecs with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. The other Aztec goals came from Courtney Robinson and Brook Waddell, who also had an assist. Camdyn O'Donnell contributed two assists.
Brown and Cailin Young tied for a team-high five draw controls.
Goalkeeper Sam Horan had 12 savers and two ground balls.

The Aztecs were outshot 44-20 and 31-12 in shots on goal.

SDSU's 11 goals was the most Denver has allowed this season.
