SAN DIEGO – The Aztec track and field team returned home on Thursday to host the first of three days of competition at the 43rd Annual Aztec Invitational. The Aztecs had four athletes competing in the heptathlon on day one.
Fresh off her conference title in the pentathlon indoors, Sara Absten led the way for the Aztecs. She threw down a personal best in the 100m hurdles, running 14.33 in the event and winning her heat. The time was good enough for second place overall in the event. Jenna Fee Feyerabend also had a new PR in the event, running 14.70 and earned her fourth place overall.
As for the high jump, Absten continued her solid start to the day with a jump of 5-07.25, good enough to tie for first in the event and set a new personal record. Feyerabend also continued her solid day one with a PR of 5-05.00 in the high jump as well, also good enough for fourth place om the event.
Following the high jump was the shot put where Feyerabend led a trio of Aztecs that placed in the top three. Feyerabend threw 42-04.00 (12.9m) to win the event, Thalia Wilson placed second with a throw of 36-08.50 and Sara Absten came in third with a throw of 35-10.25.
Wrapping up the day of competition was the 200m dash, which Absten capped off her day with a win. She posted a 24.90 split and won the event by over half a second.
Up Next: The Aztecs continue competition at the 43rd Annual Aztec Invitational on Friday, with day two of the heptathlon and decathlon, as well as the hammer throw. After Friday, Saturday's action will be streamed on RunnerSpace +, which is a subscription-based service. Fans can also attend the meet for $5 on Saturday, students are free.
