SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team looks to continue its hot start to the 2022 season when they head across town to play at the University of San Diego on Wednesday. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m. PT.

San Diego State has opened the 2022 campaign 6-2 and have won three of their last four matches.

The Aztecs were a perfect 3-0 in the month of January. SDSU posted wins over Sacramento State (6-1), UC Riverside (4-0), and UC San Diego (4-0), to open the season. They followed the month of January with a 4-2 stretch in February. San Diego State fell to Arizona in Tucson (4-2) at the beginning of the month, before going on a three-match winning streak. The Aztecs picked up wins over Long Beach State (4-0), Cal Poly (7-0), and Hawai'i (5-2) during that streak. The Aztecs dropped their final match of February in a back-and-forth affair to No. 7 Cal, 5-2.

Following her strong play to open the season, the Mountain West Conference announced that senior Tamara Arnold was named conference player of the week for the week of February 16. Arnold had a sensational first weekend, posting a pair of straight set singles victories to go along with a 2-0 mark in doubles action.

Overall, multiple Aztecs have started the season in strong form to open dual season. At the No. 1 singles spot Bunyawi Thamchaiwat has started the season a perfect 7-0 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles play. Arnold has also started the season strongly, going 5-2 in singles play at the No. 2 spot and 6-1 in doubles matches. Nnena Nadozie is another name to watch for the Aztecs, she has won four of six singles matches at the No. 3 spot and is 1-0 at the No. 2 slot to start the spring.

The Toreros enter Wednesday's match 5-3 on the season and have lost two of their last three matches.

Wednesday's contest is the only road match in the month of March for the Aztecs. After facing off against USD, San Diego State will start a five-match homestand with a match against Princeton on March 7, at 2 p.m. PT.
