SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (11-12, 5-7) shot a season-best 52 percent from the field on their way to a 68-57 win over Nevada (15-8, 7-4) Wednesday afternoon.

The shorthanded Aztecs had four players score in double-digits and were led by Mercedes Staples who scored a season-high 21 points behind an efficient 9-for-13 shooting day. Meghan Fiso had a career-high 13 points off the bench, while Asia Avinger stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Sophia Ramos had 12 points as well.

SDSU began the game on an 8-2 run and took a 14-10 lead into the second quarter. After scoring the first six points of the quarter, SDSU opened up a 10-point lead.

Nevada immediately responded with a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the game.

The game was knotted at 29 at the half and then the Wolf Pack scored the first six points in the third quarter to go up six points, their largest lead of the day.

The Aztecs would slowly chip away at their deficit and then caught fire in the final minutes of the third quarter and went on an 11-0 run to go up 53-44.

Nevada would get as close as four points (55-51) with 5:13 left but SDSU then made six shots in a row and pushed their lead back up to 12.

Nevada's Lexie Givens scored a career-high 27 points on 9-for-11 shooting but the rest of the Wolf Pack were just 25 percent from the field (11-44). SDSU held Nevada to 22 percent shooting from three while shooting 47 percent themselves.

The Aztecs shot a season-best 52 percent from the floor.

SDSU is 9-2 against Nevada at home and has won seven of their last eight.
