ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –  The Aztec track and field team finished second at the Mountain West Indoor Championships. Danae Dyer won the 60m hurdles, Kaitlin Harris won the pole vault, and the 4x400 meter relay team won the title, as the Aztecs had nine athletes medal in individual events.
 
The first Aztec to earn a podium spot was Danae Dyer in the 60m hurdles. The junior ran 8.29 and won the event with a lean at the line to take the Mountain West Indoor crown. The 8.29 time is a new PR for Dyer.
 
SDSU then swept the podium in the pole vault. Kaitlin Heri and Ashley Callahan both cleared 13.05 to take first and second. Heri took the win over Callahan because she had fewer misses at lower heights. Corey Friedenbach also earned a podium spot, she vaulted 13-00.75 to tie for third.
 
In the triple jump Simone Johnson earned another spot on the podium for the Aztecs. Her mark of 42-03.25 earned her second place in the event, and she set a new PR by over a foot in the event.
 
Sakura Roberson continued the trend for the Aztecs. She competed in the 400m finals and threw down a 53.98 to earn third place in the event.
 
Jada Moore and Jalyn Harris both earned points a combined eight points for the Aztecs in the 60m dash. Moore leaned at the line to secure third place in 7.49, while Jalyn Harris finished seventh in 7.61.
 
Lauren Harper set a new indoor school record in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:07.31. With that time, she crushed her PR by almost a second, finished third overall in the race, and earned six points for the Aztecs in the team category.
 
The 200m dash had three participants representing the Aztecs. Jada Moore, Harris and Aisha Watt all took part. Moore won her heat in 23.92 and finished fourth overall, while Harris ran 23.98 to finish fifth, and Watt came in seventh in 24.34. The trio earned a combined 11 points for the Aztecs.
 
SDSU capped off the meet in style, by winning the 4x400 meter relay. The team of McNeil, Roberson, Rhea Hoyte, and Harris won the title in 3:37.06, which is the second-best time in school history.  
 
THE NOTE
The Aztecs have won the indoor pole vault title seven times in a row and nine of the last 10. In total, SDSU has won 28 conference titles in the pole vault out of a possible 42 tries (indoor and outdoor).
 
UP NEXT
The Aztecs turn their attention to the outdoor season and will head north to Fullerton, Calif. for the Astro Al Distance Classic on March 11.
