ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aztec track and field team had a successful first day at the Mountain West Indoor Championships Thursday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The day was highlighted by Sara Absten winning the pentathlon with 4,039 points, while freshman Jenna Fee Feyerabend finished third overall.
 
Absten posted new personal bests in four events and finished with 4,039 points, a new personal best and the third most points in school history.
 
Absten set the tone early in the day with a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.60 seconds) a new PR, and a third-place finish in the high jump (5-05.75), tying her personal record in the event. She then went on to place fifth in shot put, setting a PR by over four feet (37-06.00). She put together a strong showing in the long jump (19-01.25) where she finished third and wrapped up the day with a first-place performance in the 800m run, setting her fourth PR of the day (2:21.17).
 
Jenna Fee Feyerabend and Ruthie Grant-Williams also took part in the Pentathlon for the Aztecs.
 
Feyerabend set personal records in all five events, and won the shot put (42-05.25). Feyerabend, who comes to the Mesa from Germany, finished third overall in the event, scoring 3,882 points, putting her sixth on the all-time list.  
 
Grant-Williams also did well throughout the day. She earned a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles to start the day, winning her heat in 8.85 seconds in the process. She also posted a PR in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:51.50.
 
THE NOTE:
After recording the win, Absten became the second consecutive Aztec to win the Indoor Pentathlon title, Asia Smith won the title in 2020.
