COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Alex Rodriguez was named Mountain West Baseball Freshman of the Week for his performance at the season-opening MLB4 Tournament, held Feb. 18-20 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Rodriguez started all three games at second base for the Aztecs at the prestigious event, leading the team with a .500 batting average and a .600 on-base percentage while tying for the top spot with four hits.

A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with an RBI in his collegiate debut against No. 17 TCU in the opener on Friday, posting singles in his first two career at-bats. He also drove in his first collegiate run after reaching on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth, giving SDSU a 3-2 lead that held up until the bottom of the ninth.

Against Houston on Saturday, Rodriguez was hit by a pitch and scored during the Aztecs' pivotal three-run outburst in the fifth inning, as the Scarlet and Black held on for its first win of the year in a 4-3 victory.

Rodriguez then wrapped up the tournament with a 1-for-3 effort at the plate vs. California on Sunday.

As a second baseman, Rodriguez did not commit an error in five chances for the weekend, finishing with a clean 1.000 fielding percentage.

Rodriguez and the Aztecs will be back in action on Tuesday when they make a quick drive to Orange County to face UC Irvine, beginning at 6 p.m. PT.
