ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aztec track and field team finished the second day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center Saturday afternoon.

SDSU's day was highlighted by record performances by Lauren Harper and Ashley Callahan. Harper set a new school record for the 800-meter indoor run, finishing in 2:08.24, while Callahan cleared 14 feet in the pole vault to take first place and set a new SDSU indoor record for freshmen. Callahan became the sixth Aztec to clear 14-00.00 (4.27m) in the indoor season and she eclipsed former SDSU All-American Bonnie Draxler freshmen record by 3.5 inches.

Three other Aztecs posted PR's that put them in SDSU's top 10 in the indoor record book. Emily Burd, another Aztec distance runner making her 2022 debut, finished the mile in 5:09.02, the seventh fastest time in school history.

Both Simone Johnson (triple jump) and Jordyn Bryant (shot put) beat out the PRs they set last week to improve their all-time ranking. Johnson cleared 40-07.00 (12.37m) in the triple jump, nearly five inches better than her best jump last week. Johnson now has the sixth best mark in school history.

Bryant had a shot put throw of 46-08.75 (14.24m), which moved her up from ninth all-time to seventh.

Other notable performances Saturday include Jalyn Harris who ran a 7.575 in the 60m dash to qualify for the prelims where bested her time and ran a 7.559.

Sara Absten qualified for the 60m hurdles prelims after running a 8.79 (6th place) and then she ran a PR of 8.73.

In the pole vault, Kaitlin Heri placed third with a vault of 13-06.25 (4.12m) and Corey Friedenbach posted a PR for the second straight week, clearing 13-00.25 (3.97m).
