LUBBOCK, Texas – The Aztec track and field team kicked off their 2022 indoor season at the Texas Tech Open Friday, their first indoor competition in 700 days.
 
The day was highlighted by sprinter Jada Moore who posted a new PR in the 60m dash, finishing in 7.442, the eighth fastest time in SDSU's indoor history. That time advanced her to the semis, where she finished ninth (7.51) and one hundredth of a second away from qualifying for the finals.
 
Friday's other noteworthy performance came from Sakura Roberson, who finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 54.79. It was Roberson's first competition in nearly two years.
 
Alexus Alexander (18th, 7.642) and Jalyn Harris (22nd, 7.668) joined Moore in qualifying for the 60m dash semis where they both improved their time. Harris ran a 7.60 (16th place) and Alexander was right behind her with a 7.62 (17th place).
 
In the 400m dash, Nyjari McNeil finished in 13th with a time of 55.96. Rhea Hoyte (19th, 56.94) and Anaya Alexander (25th, 58.72), who made her SDSU debut, also competed.
 
Sara Absten PR'd in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.78 to advance to the semis where she finished in 8.804.
 
Kaitlin Heri and heralded freshman Ashley Callahan both cleared 13-00.25 (3.97m) in the pole vault to take fourth and eighth respectively.
 
In the long jump, Vanessa Spizewski had a personal best jump of 18-09.25 13th place).
 
Felicia Crenshaw came in 10th in the weight throw (B section) with a toss of 47-10.50 (14.59m).
