SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State men's golf head coach Ryan Donovan has announced the addition of Rugthai Thongsom to the program. The Oklahoma State transfer will have 3 1/2 seasons of eligibility remaining with the Aztecs, beginning this spring season.

Although Thongsom has not competed at the collegiate level, he brings a wealth of international experience to The Mesa. Thongsom captured the TKG STCC International in 2020, and also has victories at the 2019 Hills Australian Junior Open, both the 2018 and 2019 Indonesia Junior Amateur Open Championship, the 2018 APJGA Hainan Junior Open, the 2016 U-16 Greg Normal Junior Masters and the 2016 U-16 Hills Australian Junior Championship.

Thongsom also has a runner-up finish at the 2019 Kids Golf World Championship Malaysia to his credit and a third-place finish at the 2018 Hills Australian Junior Open.

Thongsom joins a program that returned five of its six regular starters from last spring where it tied for 25th at the 2021 NCAA Championship and completed its season with two team victories, seven top-5 finishes and three individual titles.

SDSU kicks off its spring campaign at the Southwestern Invitational, Jan. 24-26 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California. San Diego State claimed last year's event at 10-over-par 874 in a loaded field which set the tone for an impressive spring campaign where the Aztecs ranked in or near the top 25 for the rest of the season.
