Aztecs Place 23rd at NCAA Regionals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Aztec cross country team placed 23rd at the NCAA West Regionals at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif. Friday morning, SDSU's highest finish at regionals since 2005.
 
SDSU was paced by Jessica Kain, who came in 100th place (out of 235 runners) with a time of 21:46.5. Carlene Masar, who missed the last race, was the second Aztec to finish, coming in 122nd (22:11.4).
 
Nicole Meyer, who paced the Aztecs at the Mountain West Championships, finished right behind Masar with a time of 22:14.5, good for 126th place. Rounding out the top five for SDSU was Emily Burd (144th, 22:30.1) and Amber Elias (165thm 22:47.3).
 
Also running for the Aztecs was Naomi Smitham (175th, 22:57.6) and Lauren Harper (180th, 23:03.2).
 
Three Pac-12 schools finished in the top three with Stanford winning the championship, followed by Washington and Oregon. Stanford's Julia Heymach took home the individual crown edging out San Francisco's Ruby Smee with a time of 20:01.6.
