SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men's golf team signed a pair of golfers to National Letters of Intent, head coach Ryan Donovan announced Wednesday. The two student-athletes - Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) and Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) - will join the Aztecs in the fall of 2022.
A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Chokprajakchat comes to the Aztecs after playing at Anaheim Discovery Christian School in Anaheim, California, the same high school as current Aztec star Puwit Anupansuebsai. A captain, Chokprajakchat was the 2021 San Joaquin League Player of the Year and is a two-time first-team all-league selection (2019 and 2021) after the 2020 season was canceled because of COVID. He has three top-10 finishes in WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings) qualifying events in 2021, including a T-6 at the Ping An Bank Open Championship in August.
Another local product out of Pacific Ridge High School in Carlsbad, California, Oyama was the league MVP as a freshman in 2018, is a two-time AJGA Champion at Palos Verdes Golf Club, including a victory at the Under Armour/Alison Lee Championship in August. He has two top-5 finishes in WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings) qualifying events in 2021, including the aforementioned win and a fourth-place finish at the AJGA Junior at Peach Tree.
SDSU kicks off its spring slate at the Southwestern Invitational, Jan. 24-26, at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California. San Diego State claimed last year's event at 10-over-par 874 in a loaded field which set the tone for an impressive spring campaign where the Aztecs ranked in or near the top 25 for the rest of the season.
