SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State football team is ranked 22nd in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll, released Sunday. It is the highest the Aztecs (6-0, 2-0 MW) have been ranked since coming in at No. 19 on Oct. 8, 2017.
SDSU, which is one of 11 unbeaten teams left in FBS play, has now been ranked 13 times since the 2016 season.
San Diego State received 284 points in this week's poll, up from 176 a week ago when it was ranked 24th. The Aztecs have 107 points more than No. 23 Pittsburgh (177), while No. 24 UTSA (104) and No. 25 Purdue (68) round out the top 25. SDSU is within 100 points of two teams - No. 20 Baylor (378) and No. 21 SMU (358) - and just 113 behind No. 19 Auburn (397).
In the AFCA Coaches Poll, San Diego State checked in at No. 21 with 334 points, moving up three spots and gaining 178 points from last week's poll. The Aztecs trail No. 20 Baylor (369) by just 35 points, and are ahead of other ranked teams Auburn (No. 22, 315), Pittsburgh (No. 23, 192), Clemson (No. 24, 146) and UTSA (No. 25, 96).
Georgia is ranked first in both polls with all the first-place votes.
SDSU, which is off to a 6-0 start for just the second time in the last 46 seasons (also 2017), plays at Air Force on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT (4 p.m. PT).
