SAN DIEGO – Aztec goalkeeper Jacob Castro was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Castro helped the Aztecs shutout Cal and No. 23 Stanford last week and currently leads the nation in shutouts (six), goals-against average (0.132) and save percentage (.963).
Castro, with the help of the SDSU back line, has recorded six shutouts and guided the Aztecs to a 5-0-2 record, the first time the program has been undefeated through seven matches since 2005.
Against No. 23 Stanford on Sunday, he had a career-high seven saves as the Aztecs beat the Cardinal for the first time since 2011.
This is the 25th time SDSU has had a player take home Pac-12 Player of the Week honors.
