OMAHA, Neb. – San Diego State senior swimmer Kristina Murphy earned a third-place finish in the 200m breaststroke championship finals at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Monday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb. Murphy finished one position shy of qualifying for Wave II of the Olympic Trials, scheduled for June 13-20.
Murphy opened her day with a fifth-place effort in the preliminary heats, touching the wall at 2:33.34. Her effort advanced her to the 'A' or championship finals Monday evening. In the finals, the rising senior finished 1.35 seconds faster than her qualifying mark with a time of 2:31.89 to earn the bronze finish.
Swimmers from Wave I could advance to Wave II and earn a chance to compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team if they finished as one of the top-two swimmers of their event at the wildcard weekend.
