SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State senior men's golfer Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) was named a 2020-21 Golfweek All-American on Thursday. Anupansuebsai is an honorable-mention selection for the second consecutive season.
Anupansuebsai, who last month earned PING All-West Region accolades and was named to the all-MW team for a third straight season, led the Aztecs in scoring average (70.93), rounds in the 60s (10), rounds below par (13), even-par rounds (6) and team count percentage (.926). He finished the season ranked 34th in the Sagarin/Golfweek ratings, despite SDSU only competing in the spring.
Anupansuebsai was San Diego State's top finisher in each of the final five tournaments, including a tie for 56th at the NCAA Championship from May 28-30 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Prior to the NCAA Championship, Anupansuebsai had an individual win at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional (May 17-19), a playoff victory at the MW Championship (April 29-May 1), a playoff loss at the Western Intercollegiate (April 12-14) and a tie for second at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (April 5-6).
Anupansuebsai, who is currently 25th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), will represent the international team at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Club this weekend at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Last year, Anupansuebsai went 3-0 and helped the internationals to a domination 40.5-19.5 win, ultimately receiving the 2020 Michael Carter Award, which combines the qualities of sportsmanship, integrity and upholding of the game.
The Aztecs tied for 25th at the NCAA Championship and completed their season with two team victories, seven top-5 finishes and three individual titles.
