COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Tre Brown (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake HS) was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in the Aztecs' 6-5 come-from-behind victory in the second game of a doubleheader at New Mexico on May 28.

With his award, Brown garnered the first conference weekly accolade of his career, giving SDSU 10 such honors for the season.

Making his 16th appearance as a reliever, Brown collected his league-leading seventh victory of the year at UNM, yielding just one run on three hits and one walk to go with four strikeouts over the final four innings. By keeping the Lobos in check, Brown's performance allowed the Scarlet and Black to overcome a 5-4 deficit with two runs in the ninth and pull out the win.

A product of nearby Eastlake High School, Brown received inning-ending strikeouts in the seventh and eighth before inducing a game-ending double play in the ninth. The Aztec senior gave up just one hit with a runner on base during his stint and did not allow a leadoff batter to get aboard.

For the season, Brown finished with a team-best 7-1 record and four saves, the latter of which ranked fifth in the MW. He also  lowered his season ERA from 5.35 to 5.02, which was second on the squad, while his 41 strikeouts ranked fourth. In addition, Brown limited the opposition to a .211 batting average for the year, which was tops among Aztec hurlers.

San Diego State completed the 2021 campaign with a 30-16 overall record and a second-place mark of 22-14 in the Mountain West. The Aztecs captured series victories in 12 of 15 weeks and were the only conference team to play all 36 games on its original MW schedule.
