CLOVIS, Calif. – The Aztec track and field team completed day two of the Mountain West Outdoor Championships Friday evening in Clovis, Calif. SDSU picked up points in the finals of the heptathlon (8), pole vault (14) and shot put (3) and saw 14 track athletes advance to Saturday's finals.

Through seven events, the Aztecs are in fourth place with 25 points. Colorado State is in the lead with 74.
 
The Aztecs took silver and bronze in the pole vault after Kaitlin Heri (2nd) and Elizabeth Funk (3rd) cleared 13-02.25 (4.02m), which was a personal best for Funk.
 
All five of SDSU's entries in the 200m dash posted personal best times and four of them qualified for the finals. Jada Moore won her heat and finished in 23.35, ninth all-time in program history. Jalyn Harris had the fifth-fastest time (23.58), Danae Dyer (23.77) came in eighth and Aisha Watt (23.79) placed ninth. Tai McDonald also ran a PR with a time of 24.63.
 
In the 400m hurdle prelims Maya Brosch (59.55) placed first and Rhea Hoyte (1:00.97) came in third to qualify for the finals.
 
Danae Dyer had the top time in the 100m hurdles, finishing in 13.38 to move on to Saturday's finals. Asia Smith advanced as well after tying her PR of 14.06, which gave her the fifth best time.
 
Jalyn Harris had the third best time in the 400m dash, finishing in 54.44. Harris has medaled in the last two MW Outdoor Championships, taking third in 2018 and second in 2019.
 
Jessica Kain won her heat in the 1,500m with a time of 4:32.56 to advance to finals where she will be joined by Emily Burd who ran a personal best 4:33.86.
 
Jada Moore advanced to the finals in the 100m dash after finishing with a personal best time of 11.61, which set a new Aztec freshman record. Aisha Watt also had a PR (11.91), but just missed the cut.
 
Nyjari McNeil and Lauren Harper will compete in the 800m finals Saturday after finishing in sixth and eighth, respectively. McNeil finished in 2:09.54 and Harper had a new PR of 2:09.65.
 
Jordyn Bryant picked up three points with a sixth-place finish in the shot put (48-10.25).
 
In the heptathlon, Asia Smith and Sara Absten picked up eight points for the Aztecs after earning fourth and sixth place finishes with new personal bests. Smith finished with 5,355 points, good for No. 9 all-time and crushed her previous best time in the 800m by over seven seconds (2:26.48). Absten finished with 4,947 points and won the 800m (2:23.79) and had a new PR in the javelin (80-1).
 
UP NEXT
The Aztecs will compete in the finals tomorrow (Saturday) in the track events as well as the javelin, triple jump, discus and high jump.
 
THE NOTE
16 new personal bests were set by Aztec athletes on Friday, including all five of SDSU's entrants in the 200m dash.
