COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) has been named the Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the second career accolade for the senior and the second by an Aztec this season (also Youssef Guezzale on Jan. 29).
Anupansuebsai led SDSU to a six-shot victory at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz., earlier this week as the team shot a tournament-record 33-under-par 831.
Anupansuebsai finished in a tie for second place out of 104 players at 12-under 204 with three consecutive under-par rounds of 66 (-6), 70 (-2) and 68 (-4). It was the best finish of his spring career and highest finish since a win at the 2019 Bill Cullum Invitational in the fall. Anupansuebsai had 16 birdies for the tournament and played his first 27 holes without a bogey, ultimately recording just two bogeys and a double bogey. He ended up tying for first in the field in par-4 scoring (3.80) and tied for third in par-3 scoring (2.82).
The tournament title was San Diego State's second of the season (also the Southwestern Invitational from Jan. 25-27) and third in its last nine team events. The Aztecs also tied for the 10th-best 54-hole score in program history and the 267 on Monday tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in school history.
Listed at No. 23 in the latest Golfstat rankings, SDSU will compete in the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club, April 12-13 in Santa Cruz, Calif.
