Franson Classic (Heptathlon) - April 9-10 at Azusa Pacific
Triton Invitational - April 10 at UC San Diego
 
For the first time this season, the San Diego State track and field team will be competing off campus. The majority of the team will be competing at the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on Saturday. Three heptathletes (Sara Absten, Ruthie Grant-Williams and Asia Smith) will be competing at the Franson Classic hosted by Azusa Pacific Friday and Saturday. Former Aztec Allison (Reaser) Halverson will be competing as well.
 
The heptathlon will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with the 200-meter dash. Saturday's events will kick off at 2 p.m. as well with the long jump. Asia Smith won the pentathlon at the 2020 Mountain West Indoor Championships and took third at the 2019 MW Outdoor Championships.
 
SDSU will have 30 athletes competing at UCSD's Triton Invitational on Saturday. The first event is the javelin at 1 p.m. The first running event will be the 4x100m relay at 2 p.m. Per current COVID-19 safety guidelines and protocols implemented by UC San Diego, spectators are not permitted to attend the Triton Invitational.
 
Aztec Tidbits
- The Aztecs hosted Nevada, Oregon State and UNLV for the Mountain West Challenge on Wednesday and took first place with 179 points.
- SDSU took first place in nine events and had eight other athletes earn top three finishes.
- Kaitlin Heri won the pole vault with a personal best mark of 14 feet to become just the fifth Aztec ever to clear 14'. She is currently tied for seventh in the nation and leads the Mountain West.
- Other Aztecs that took first place Wednesday: Jada Moore (200m, 24.00), Jalyn Harris (400m, 54.15), Jessica Kain (3,000m, 10:01.50), Danae Dyer (100m hurdles, 13.42), Maya Brosch (400m hurdles, 58.99), Jordyn Bryant (shot put, 48-10.25) and Erica Grotegeer (discus throw, 171-5). SDSU also took first in the 4x100m relay with the group of Alexus Alexander, Aisha Watt, Rhea Hoyte and Vanessa Spizewski finishing in 46.54.
- Entering the weekend eight Aztecs are ranked in the top three in the conference and would qualify for the NCAA Regionals (top 32): Kaitlin Heri (pole vault), Maya Brosch (400m hurdles), Jada Moore (100m), Jordyn Bryant (discus), Erica Grotegeer (discus), Danae Dyer (100m hurdles), Jalyn Harris (400m) and Elizabeth Funk (pole vault).
- Through three meets, all of which were team competitions, the Aztecs have taken first twice and second.
1.18, 1500m), Jordyn Bryant (172-5, discus throw) and Maya Brosch (58.74, 400m hurdles) all entered the top ten all-time with their marks.
- The Aztecs, joined by the majority of the Mountain West, did not compete in the indoor season.
- The Aztecs have 33 upperclassmen (12 seniors and 21 juniors).
- 39 of SDSU's 52 student-athletes hail from California.
 
Where the Aztecs Rank
Select Aztecs will head to Texas A&M for the NCAA West Prelims (May 27-29). The athletes listed below are currently ranked in the top 32 of the West region and would qualify for the prelims. The Aztecs also would currently qualify for the 4x100m relay (45.20, 13th in the region).
