Mountain West Challenge - Nevada, Oregon State & UNLV

The San Diego State track and field team hosts the annual Mountain West Challenge on Wednesday, going up against Nevada, UNLV and Oregon State.
       
The field events will begin at 9 a.m. with the javelin throw and the first running event will be the 4x100m relay at 11:30 a.m.
       
Individual events will be scored: 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 and relays will be 9, 7, 6 and 5. Only two individual entries per institution shall score and one relay entry per institution shall score.
       
The hammer throw, steeplechase and 10,000m run will not be competed and the 3,000m run will be competed instead of the 5,000m run.
 
Aztec Tidbits
- Maya Brosch was named the Mountain West Track Athlete of the Week following her performance in the 400m hurdles last weekend. She finished in 1:02.05, a new personal best time and currently the best time in the conference.
- Kaitlin Heri (pole vault) and Jordyn Bryant (discus throw) also currently have the best marks in the Mountain West. Brosch (400m hurdles, 23rd) and Heri (pole vault, T-26th) are in the top 30 in the nation.
- In total, the Aztecs have 10 athletes currently ranked in the top five in the Mountain West: Danae Dyer (100m hurdles, 13.68, 1st), Maya Brosch (400m hurdles, 58.74, 1st), Kaitlin Heri (pole vault, 13-06.25, 1st), Jordyn Bryant (discus throw, 172-5, 1st), Elizabeth Funk (pole vault, 13-00.25, 2nd), Jada Moore (100m, 11.50w, 3rd), Jalyn Harris (400m, 54.09, 3rd), Thaila Wilson (javelin throw, 132-6, 3rd), Ruthie Grant-Williams (heptathlon, 4,068 points (6 of 7 events), 3rd), Jordyn Bryant (shot put, 49-5.00, 4th), Erica Grotegeer (discus throw, 165-8, 4th) and Ruthie Grant-Williams (high jump, 5-07.25, 5th). Additionally, their 4x100m (45.20) and 4x400m (3:42.44) relay teams both have the second fastest time in the conference.
- This will be SDSU's third meet of 2021, all of which have been at home.
- Later this week, SDSU will have its heptathletes compete at Azusa Pacific while the rest of the Aztecs are at UC San Diego for the Triton Invitational.
- SDSU took second place at the Aztec Invitational in their last competition, coming in just behind of USC and ahead of Oregon.
- Jessica Kain (4:31.18, 1500m), Jordyn Bryant (172-5, discus throw) and Maya Brosch (58.74, 400m hurdles) all entered the top ten all-time with their marks.
- The Aztecs, joined by the majority of the Mountain West, did not compete in the indoor season.
