Aztec Storylines

  • The San Diego State lacrosse team opens their April scheduling Sunday, welcoming California to America's Finest City April 4 for a game at Aztec Lacrosse Field. The Easter Sunday opening draw is set for high noon.

  • Live stats and a stream will be available for the game versus the Golden Bears.  The websites for both the live stats and stream are linked on GoAztecs.com.

  • LAST TIME OUT (at California, Feb. 28, 2021): The San Diego State lacrosse team came out on the right side of a battle in Berkeley, beating the California Golden Bears 12-11 in California Memorial Stadium Sunday, Feb. 28. The Aztecs took a 9-4 lead into the second half, but California outscored the Aztecs 7-3 in the final 30 minutes to make it a close game. Young ended a six-goal Golden Bears' scoring run with the Aztecs' game-winning score with 3:15 left to play.

  • LAST TIME OUT (most recent game played): A valiant comeback effort by the San Diego State women's lacrosse team came up short Saturday as the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers topped the Aztecs 18-14 at Aztec Lacrosse Field March 27. Down 11-3 with 28:03 left to play in the game, the Aztecs went on to outscore the Chants 11-7 for the rest of the matchup, cutting the final deficit to four scores. Sophomore Caitlin Jones led the Aztecs on the offensive front, scoring four goals on seven shots.

  • San Diego State lacrosse senior Bailey Brown was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Defensive Player of the Week, the conference offices announced Monday. Brown continued her impressive senior campaign Saturday, March 27 in the Aztecs' matchup with Coastal Carolina. She scored her fourth hat trick of the 2021 season while adding two ground balls and eight draw controls. Her dominance in the draw circle helped the Aztecs outdraw their opponent 17-to-16.  Her second-half ground-ball snag gave the Aztecs a fast-break opportunity that they capitalized on, reeling in a Coastal Carolina 2-0 scoring run to keep the scoreboard at a five-goal margin.

  • Emily Resnick is one of only three MPSF student-athletes to accumulate at least 10 assists this season. The graduate student sits seventh in the conference for total points (22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists) and eighth in the league for draw controls (14).

  • Other Aztecs sitting in the top-five MPSF conference statistics categories include:
    •  Bailey Brown- 38 draw controls (second in the MPSF), 7 caused turnovers (tied-for-third in the league), 33 shots (10th in the MPSF)
    •  Lexi Tan- 6 free-position goals (fourth in MPSF), 15 goals (eighth in the league), 7 caused turnovers (tied-for-third in MPSF)
    •  Katy Sharretts- 19 ground balls (fifth in the MPSF)
    •  Cailin Young- 17 draw controls (tied-for-fifth in the conference), 7 caused turnovers (tied-for-third in the MPSF)

  • The Aztecs' goalkeeping corps lead the MPSF in saves per game with 93 throughout the season for an average of 11.62 saves a game. Sharretts has had four games this season with a save percentage over .500 and sits with a .429 save percentage in 2021 and is just three saves from 500 for her career. If Sharretts can accumulate three saves in Sunday's matchup, she will become just the seventh netminder in MPSF history to have 500-or-more saves in her career.

  • The Aztecs are in the midst of a 29-day period with six scheduled matchups to conclude their 2021 regular season.  Both of the Scarlet and Black's conference games lie in the compacted schedule, heading to Davis on April 11 and hosting Fresno State on April 17. The standings after those two games will determine seeding for the conference tournament and will decide which two programs play in the semifinals on April 30 (No. 2 vs. No. 3), with the winner of that matchup heading to play the No.1 seed in the championship game on May 1.
