Long Beach Throws & Jumps Fest - April 30 (Throws) & May 1 (Jumps & Pole Vault) - Jack Rose Track
The Aztecs will be competing in a meet co-hosted by UC Riverside and Long Beach State this weekend. UC Riverside will host the running events with the distance runners competing Thursday and sprinters running Friday. At Long Beach State, the throwers compete Friday and jumpers and pole vaulters will go Saturday. This is SDSU's final competition before the Mountain West Outdoor Championships (May 13-15).
The Aztecs will be competing against Long Beach State, UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Cal State Bakersfield, UC Irvine and UC San Diego. No fans will be permitted to attend either meet.
Aztec Tidbits
- Simone Johnson was named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week following the Long Beach Invitational. Johnson (Fresno, Calif.) had a triple jump of 42-03.50 (12.89m), the fifth best jump in school history, and just half an inch (.01m) off former NCAA champion Shanieka Thomas' SDSU freshman record. Her jump currently ranks second in the Mountain West.
- Carlene Masar and Felicia Crenshaw also etched their names in the Aztec record book. Masar ran the 10,000m in 35:27.53 at the Bryan Clay Invitational, the fifth fastest time in school history and fastest in 10 years. Crenshaw had a hammer throw of 165-4 (50.41m), the ninth furthest throw of all-time. Crenshaw also had a personal best shot put throw of 41-11.25 (12.78m).
- The Aztecs are ranked in the top ten nationally in the USTFCCCA event squad rankings: discus (6th), 10,000 meters (6th), 400m hurdles (10th) and pole vault (10th).
- Five Aztecs took first place at the Long Beach Invitational: Maya Brosch (400m hurdles, 1:00.25), Kaitlin Heri (pole vault, 13-03.50), Jessica Kain (1,500m, 4:31.33), Nyjari McNeil (800m, 2:10.00), and Jordyn Bryant (shot put, 47-11.75 and discus, 171-4).
- Entering the weekend seven Aztecs are ranked in the top three in the conference and would qualify for the NCAA West Prelims (top 32): Kaitlin Heri (pole vault), Maya Brosch (400m hurdles), Simone Johnson (triple jump), Jada Moore (100m), Jordyn Bryant (discus), Erica Grotegeer (discus) and Danae Dyer (100m hurdles).
- In SDSU's four meets that were team competitions, the Aztecs finished in first three times and second once.
- Seven Aztecs have recorded marks that put them in the top ten all-time in SDSU's outdoor history: Kaitlin Heri (5th pole vault, 14-00.00), Simone Johnson (5th in triple jump, 42-03.50), Carlene Masar (5th 10,000m, 35:27.53), Jessica Kain (7th 1,500m 4:31.18), Jordyn Bryant (8th in discus throw 172-5), Maya Brosch (9th in 400m hurdles, 58.74) and Felicia Crenshaw (9th hammer throw, 165-4).
