SDSU Divers Impress at NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.— The San Diego State diving program saw great success taking on the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks and the University of Idaho Vandals Feb. 5-6, as an Aztec earned a podium finish in all three events (1-meter, 3-meter, platform) throughout the two-day event.
 
Friday's action kicked off with the 3-meter championship where junior Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez earned a second-place finish, breaking the 300-point barrier and totaling a score of 311.80. Fellow junior Lexi Letts finished in fourth place with a score of 274.45 and third-year diver Gillian Garcia earned a seventh-place mark with a point total of 263.70. Junior Gina Cazares and senior Erica Sarver rounded out the top-10 finishes with ninth and tenth place, respectively, as Cazares earned 243.50 points and Sarver totaled 240.60 points. In her first diving-exclusive collegiate meet, freshman Jules Harrison finished 13th out of 15 divers with a score of 233.95.
 
The Scarlet and Black also competed in the 1-meter championship Friday, as Lechuga Gonzalez earned her first of two gold-medal efforts throughout the two-day event with a final score of 312.45. Letts, Garcia, Sarver, and Cazares finished in sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth place, respectively, while Harrison brought home a 14th-place performance of 202.10.
 
Saturday saw the Aztecs complete a podium sweep on the platform dive as Lechuga Gonzalez, Cazares and Sarver earned gold, silver, and bronze finishes respectively. Letts completed the top-five finishers with a score of 212.90 while Garcia placed eighth with a score of 188.45. Harrison rounded out the Aztecs' finishers with a score of 164.25, good for 13th overall.
 
SDSU now begins prep for the 2021 Mountain West Conference Championships. The diving portion of the event will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo. Feb. 18-20.
