SAN DIEGO – Tim Rice, San Diego State's Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development, has been named the National Fundraiser of the Year in the University Division by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NAADD).

"I'm honored and grateful to be recognized by my peers, the people who I hold in the highest regard," Rice said. "This recognition is indicative of the incredible work that is taking place right now across all units of San Diego State Athletics and the university as a whole."

Rice (third year at SDSU) helped the Aztec Club, the fundraising arm of the athletic department, set a school record with $33.6 million in total pledges and commitments during the 2019-20 fiscal year while also setting new highs for annual fund cash raised ($6.1 million), total donors (5,691) and Director's Cabinet members (92).

Rice, along with Adrienne Vargas (Vice President for University Relations & Development) and John David Wicker (Director of Intercollegiate Athletics), secured a $15 million dollar gift commitment from Mrs. Dianne L. Bashor, the lead gift for Aztec Stadium, the first project scheduled for San Diego State's expansion into Mission Valley.

"The new Aztec Stadium project is a game-changer for SDSU and the San Diego community," Rice explained. "The project is about the future of this university and community; this will be a year-round sports & entertainment venue in the heart of America's Finest City. I encourage community members to get involved and come visit us at the Experience Center to learn more. The type of progress that SDSU has, and continues to experience, starts and ends with visionary leadership, and we are fortunate to have that here on The Mesa and in the community."

Rice, whose unwavering work ethic and passion for revenue generation, has set the tone for the athletics development team and their success. Rice and the Aztec Club team have developed a culture of hard work, innovation, communication and teamwork.

"I'd also like to thank our 5,700+ Aztec Club members," Rice praised. "You should stand proud knowing that you create opportunities for outstanding young men and women to succeed, in the classroom, in competition and in life. I also want to shout-out the Aztec Club staff, and all of those working hard to advance the SDSU Mission Valley expansion including Aztec Stadium. I'm thankful to be part of this team during this transformational moment in history."
