SAN DIEGO – San Diego State won its second straight dual match on Friday with a 4-0 whitewash of UC Davis in a non-conference clash at Aztec Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Aztecs completed their second consecutive shutout of the visiting Aggies, leveling their record at 4-4 on the year. Meanwhile, UCD has dropped three of its last five outings, slipping to 6-5 overall.
SDSU captured the first two doubles matches to stake a 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard after earning a pair of 6-3 decisions. Fabian Roensdorf and Arnaud Restifo emerged triumphant over the Aggies' Andrei Volgin and Daniel Landa in the No. 2 position, while Ignacio Martinez and Rafael Gonzalez Almazan prevailed over Ivan Thamma and David Goulak at No. 1 to claim their first win as a tandem this year.
David Hough kept the momentum rolling for the Aztecs in singles with a 6-2, 6-4 conquest of Dariush Jalali in the sixth spot, while Roensdorf outlasted Thamma by a 7-5, 6-4 count at the top of the ladder.
With an insurmountable 3-0 advantage in its possession, SDSU ultimately secured the team victory when Restifo overcame a shaky first set to vanquish Chethan Swanson in the fourth position, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Aztecs will have a quick turnaround for their next match when they travel up the coast to face UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, March 1, starting at 11 a.m. PT.
