SAN DIEGO -- A former Aztec will become a champion in Super Bowl LIV, while the NBA and PGA are in full swing.

Daniel Brunskill played seven snaps on special teams in San Francisco's 37-20 win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game last Sunday. Super Bowl LIV will feature two former Aztecs on the 49ers and one from the Kansas City Chiefs. Brunskill has been a regular contributor on San Francisco all season, while Alex Barrett is a member of the practice squad. David Wells, meanwhile, is on injured reserve with the Chiefs.

In the NBA, Kawhi Leonard played in three games this week for the Los Angeles Clippers, which resulted in wins over Orlando, New Orleans and Dallas. Leonard averaged 35.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. On the season, Leonard has averaged 27.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.6 blocks per game in 34 contests. Leonard was recently named a starter for the All-Star game, which will be held Feb. 16 in Chicago. At 31-14, the Clippers have the third-best record in the Western Conference and are tied for the second-most wins in the West. Leonard will have his jersey retired at SDSU's game against Utah State on Feb. 1 in Viejas Arena.

On the PGA tour, Scott Piercy shot 9-under par at The American Express in La Quinta, finishing tied for 61st last weekend. Piercy is currently 119th in the FedExCup standings. Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun are playing in this weekend's Farmers Insurance Open at nearby Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla.
