SAN DIEGO – San Diego State's swimming and diving team competed in two scrimmages Friday against both Vanderbilt University and Seattle University.
The Aztecs opened the day with a shared practice/scrimmage with the Commodores at the Aztec Aquaplex. Then, at 2:30 p.m., SDSU, Vandy and Seattle all hit the water for a 10-event non-scoring meet.
SDSU took home the top efforts in all 9 individual events, with senior Courtney Vincent and sophomore Kristina Murphy both leading the way with top marks in two events each. Vincent finished first in both the 100 individual medley and the 100 freestyle swims while Murphy earned the fastest times in both the 200 IM and 200 breast. Senior McKenna Meyer started the day off with the fastest time in the 500 free and sophomores Mia Ryan and Sammy Geyer followed with the best efforts in the 200 free and 50 free, respectively. Senior Kassidy Henson recorded the best 200 fly swim, while freshman Riley Tapley touched the wall first in the 200 back. The only relay action of the day was a 200-freestyle effort in which Vanderbilt earned the fastest mark with the Aztecs finishing in second.
The Scarlet and Black now break until the new year, next competing Jan. 3 in a pentathlon at Aztec Aquaplex against Air Force, the University of San Diego, San Jose State and Incarnate Word.
